The Picasso Museum in Malaga will host a series of free lectures, "Surrealism and its Double," dedicated to the relevance of surrealism in contemporary art, against the backdrop of an exhibition of works by Óscar Domínguez.

From October 1st, every Wednesday for five weeks, the Picasso Museum in Malaga will host the "Surrealism and its Double" conferences. They will discuss whether surrealism is relevant today. Interestingly, the museum is currently hosting a major exhibition of works by the artist Oscar Domínguez from the island of Tenerife. It is open until October 13.

The organizers of the conferences are the Research Center of the Picasso Museum and Professor Eugenio Carmona from the University of Malaga, together with the director of the museum, Miguel López-Remiro. They want to talk about surrealism, considering that a hundred years have passed since the first manifesto of this art movement appeared. They will discuss what has changed since then and how we understand surrealism now.

The conferences will be opened by curator Isidro Hernández and the director of the Picasso Museum in Barcelona, Emmanuel Guigon. They will talk about Oscar Domínguez and Lichtenberg. On October 8, Didier Ottinger from the Pompidou Center in Paris and Professor of Art History Estrella de Diego will speak. On October 15, you can listen to writer Daniel Maximine and curator María Elena Ortiz.

The connection between Picasso and surrealism will be discussed on October 22 by Neil Cox from New York and Eugenio Carmona. And the cycle will be completed on October 29 by Miguel López-Remiro and Professor of Art History Michael Fitzgerald.

The conferences will discuss how surrealism spread around the world, how it influenced different generations and types of art, as well as the relationship between Picasso and this artistic movement. Admission to all events is free, but you must register in advance on the museum's website. Everyone is invited.

A hundred years after its emergence, surrealism once again makes us think about important things in modern culture. And all this is happening in Malaga, where they remember the outstanding artist Oscar Domínguez.
