Santa Úrsula City Council has launched a €500,000 renovation project to address structural issues, improve accessibility, and expand the amphitheater at the historic San Luis square.

Santa Úrsula City Council has launched a tender for a major renovation of the San Luis square and the La Casona amphitheater. The project, budgeted at over 500,000 euros, is expected to take nine months to complete and aims to fix long-standing structural issues that have hindered the area's use.

The primary goal is to stop persistent water leaks affecting the facilities beneath the square. To fix this, the plan includes removing and replacing the pavement, installing a new waterproofing system, and upgrading the drainage network. The renovation will also reorganize the public space, adding shade, updating street furniture, and refurbishing walls and planters.

The project also includes expanding the seating capacity at the La Casona amphitheater. This change will provide more room for spectators and create new storage space underneath the stands, making the venue more versatile for cultural events. The work will use materials like concrete, basalt stone, and wood to ensure the design complements the nearby 17th-century San Luis hermitage.

Beyond these repairs, the project aims to improve how the square connects to the surrounding area. By coordinating with the municipal neighborhood plan, the council intends to improve accessibility on nearby streets, including the old Calvario road, La Saltona, La Malagueña, and the TF-217. Ultimately, the local government hopes these upgrades will modernize one of the town’s most important social and cultural hubs while ensuring its long-term preservation.
