The 31st Trofeo Infantas de España regatta kicks off in Tenerife
The 31st Trofeo Infantas de España regatta, the final stage of the Canary Islands cruising championship, which will involve more than 200 yachtsmen, was presented in Tenerife.
The Royal Yacht Club of Tenerife (RCNT) presented an important event – the 31st Trofeo Infantas de España regatta. These competitions will take place in Santa Cruz on October 11 and 12. The regatta is part of the Spanish Cup and will be the final stage of the Canary Islands Cruise Championship.
The presentation was attended by: President of RCNT Andrés Orozco Muñoz, Councilor for Sports of the Cabildo de Tenerife Yolanda Moliné Rodríguez, Councilor for Sports of the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife Alicia Cebrián, Military Commander of Santa Cruz de Tenerife José M.ª Fernández López, Colonel Juan Casiano Irizar Sigüenza, Colonel José Luis López-Rubio Asensio, Lieutenant Colonel Jaime Relanzón Ramón, Lieutenant Juan Carlos Sola, Vice President of the Royal Canary Sailing Federation Miguel Ángel del Rosario Sánchez, Vice President of the Island Sailing Federation of Tenerife Alejandro Pérez García-Duran, and Director of CaixaBank Institutions Jesús Carlos Álvarez Domínguez.
About 30 boats and more than 200 yachtsmen from different islands are expected to participate in the regatta: Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and La Palma. The program includes three races: two on Saturday (upwind) and one on Sunday. The Sunday race will be special, as the route will run along the coast – through the Dársena and Antequera areas to Añaza, and then back to Santa Cruz.
Alejandro Pérez García-Duran, Vice President of the Island Sailing Federation of Tenerife, said that the boats will initially be divided into four categories (ORC 0-2, ORC-3, ORC-4, and ORC-5). However, changes are possible, depending on the number of participants. Although all boats will sail together, the absolute winner of the Trofeo Regata Infantas de España will be determined. This regatta will also determine the winner of the Canary Islands Cruise Championship, as it is the final stage after the Trofeo César Manrique (which took place in August at RCN Arrecife) and the Trofeo Princesa de Asturias (in September, organized by RC Náutico de Gran Canaria).
Andrés Orozco thanked the Royal Canary Sailing Federation and the Island Sailing Federation of Tenerife for their support. Yolanda Moliné called the Regata Trofeo Infantas de España "one of the most famous maritime competitions in Spain." Alicia Cebrián added that it is "a great honor for Santa Cruz to host these competitions."
