In the Canary Islands, playgrounds will become more accessible to children with special needs.
In Santa Cruz, playgrounds will become more inclusive thanks to murals with clues and audio information, and the city council condemned the violence in Gaza, except for the Vox party.
In the city of Santa Cruz, in the Canary Islands, it was decided to make playgrounds more convenient for all children. The city council unanimously supported the idea of installing special murals with picture prompts and other useful things there. For example, there will be codes that can be scanned with a phone, and it will tell you everything in sound.
Juan Manuel Hermoso, a local deputy who proposed this, says he wants all children, even those with special needs, to be able to play freely.
He explained that there are over 4,500 schoolchildren in the Canary Islands who have difficulties due to health problems, such as autism or poor eyesight. They are not always comfortable in ordinary playgrounds because there is no necessary information and adaptations. Hermoso believes that playgrounds are an important part of the city where children can develop, play and give free rein to their imagination. Therefore, they should be accessible to everyone.
Carlos Tarife, who is responsible for public services in the city, supported this idea. He promised that information about new opportunities in playgrounds will appear on the city council website.
In addition, the city council meeting discussed the situation in Gaza. Most deputies condemned the violence against Palestinians and the destruction of their homes.
José Alberto Díaz Estebanes and Patricia Hernández, representatives of different parties, spoke in support of the Palestinian people. Hernández even burst into tears as she spoke about the suffering of children in Gaza.
The finance deputy noted that although this issue does not directly concern the city, they cannot remain indifferent. The city council supports a peaceful resolution of the conflict between Israel and Palestine and the protection of human rights.
The Vox party was the only one that did not support this statement. Their representative, Alejandro Gómez, said that only violence against Palestine is condemned, although, in his opinion, the situation is more complicated.
The mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, was surprised by Vox's position. He condemned Hamas's actions, but believes that Israel's response is excessive and leads to the death of civilians.
