Santa Cruz Tram Maintenance to Cause Ten-Day Traffic Disruptions
Traffic in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will face disruptions through June 23 as crews conduct final maintenance on tram infrastructure at the intersection of Avenida Ángel Romero and Calle Alcalde Mandillo Tejera.
Traffic in the Santa Cruz de Tenerife metropolitan area will face disruptions for the next ten days as crews complete final maintenance work on the tram infrastructure. According to the city’s Department of Mobility and Universal Accessibility, the work will focus on the intersection of Avenida Ángel Romero and Calle Alcalde Mandillo Tejera.
The project, coordinated by the City Council, Metrotenerife, and local police, begins this Sunday, June 14, and runs through June 23. Starting at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow, the roundabout will no longer allow circular traffic, meaning drivers will be unable to make turns at this junction. While the left lane will be closed, the right lane will remain open for uphill traffic, and one lane will stay open for downhill traffic to maintain basic flow.
To help manage congestion, authorities recommend using the 29 de Mayo roundabout (at the junction of Avenida Islas Canarias and Avenida Bélgica) or the link between Avenida Ángel Romero and the Santa Cruz-La Laguna main road near Calle Pedro Suárez Hernández as alternatives.
These repairs mark the final stage of a maintenance cycle that began on April 19 at Puente Zurita and Cruz del Señor. Importantly, public transport will not be affected; both the tram network and Titsa bus lines will continue to run on their normal schedules and routes. These periodic upgrades are essential to maintaining the safety and efficiency of the city’s primary public transport system.
