Santa Cruz Traffic Changes for 'Butterfly Labyrinth' Filming
Santa Cruz City Council announces road closures and parking restrictions across various areas on multiple dates in November 2025 to facilitate the filming of the movie "El laberinto de las mariposas."
The Santa Cruz City Council's Mobility department is announcing road closures and parking restrictions in various parts of the city. These changes are due to the filming of a movie called "El laberinto de las mariposas" (The Butterfly Labyrinth), which will take place on November 3, 12, 19, 20, and 21, 2025. Streets will be closed and parking restricted intermittently, depending on the film's schedule and locations.
Starting in the Southwest district, parking will be unavailable on El Cedro street (on the CIAT side). This includes parallel parking on the right side (when heading towards El Requinto street) for about 50 meters, and perpendicular parking on the CIAT side for about 80 meters. These restrictions will be in effect from 8:00 PM on Sunday, November 2, until 8:00 PM on Monday, November 3.
Similar parking restrictions will apply on Volcán Birigoyo street (CIAT side) in the Southwest district. Parallel parking will be suspended on both sides of the street for about 105 meters. This will also be from 8:00 PM on Sunday, November 2, until 8:00 PM on Monday, November 3.
In the Centro-Ifara district, La Marina street will have intermittent closures at Patricio Estévanez, specifically near its intersection with Callejón Bouza, on November 12, 2025, between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM. During these closures, traffic coming from Villalba Hervás street and La Marina street (Plaza Cabildo section) will be rerouted via Marítima Avenue and Callejón Bouza. Traffic from Marítima Avenue (including the Francisco La Roche Avenue and Plaza Cabildo sections) will also be diverted via Callejón Bouza.
On Marítima Avenue, perpendicular parking spaces on the right side (when heading towards La Marina) will be unavailable for about 50 meters (15 spaces). This restriction is from 12:01 AM to 10:00 PM on November 12, 2025. On La Marina street, parking will be suspended on both sides of the road, just past the Callejón Bouza intersection. This affects about 35 meters on the left side and 20 meters on the right side, also from 12:01 AM to 10:00 PM on November 12.
It's important to note that any intermittent closures will be managed by the film crew. These closures will not last longer than 5 minutes and will be clearly marked by flaggers wearing high-visibility clothing and using manual signs.
Also on La Marina street, parallel parking on the right side (heading towards Callejón Bouza) will be suspended from 12:01 AM to 10:00 PM on November 12. This includes about 20 meters in front of numbers 15 and 17, which is a loading and unloading zone, and about 50 meters in front of numbers 19 to 21, which are designated taxi and bus stands.
Because the film crew will be using the taxi stand at this location, the taxi stand will be temporarily moved. It will be relocated to a parallel parking area on the right side of Marítima Avenue, just past the entrance to the Plaza de España parking garage, for approximately 35 meters. The existing bus stop in the area will remain in its current location and must not be obstructed.
