Santa Cruz Traffic Changes: Bike Lane Removal, Sewer Work Begin
Santa Cruz de Tenerife's Mobility department will implement traffic and parking changes this weekend to remove bike lanes in El Pilar, Méndez Núñez, and Villalba Hervás, while Barrio Nuevo faces ten weeks of road closures for sewage system upgrades.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council's Mobility department will be making changes to traffic and parking in El Pilar, Méndez Núñez, and Villalba Hervás starting this weekend. This is to allow for the removal of the bike lane.
Separately, Barrio Nuevo will see road closures for ten weeks on Drago and Verode streets, as work begins to expand the sewage system.
The bike lane removal will start this Sunday night and run until next Thursday night, between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM. This will involve closing lanes, either fully or partially, depending on the section. There may also be some signage work during the day as the project moves forward.
On Méndez Núñez street (Section I), work will take place on one half of the road. The right lane and the current bike lane will be closed, with traffic redirected to the left lane. This will also mean closures at the junctions of Robayna with Méndez Núñez, Pi y Margall with Callao de Lima, and Numancia with Méndez Núñez.
On El Pilar street (Section II), there will be a complete traffic closure from Méndez Núñez. This will require closures and detours on nearby roads, including Antonio de Lara y Zárate street towards El Pilar; Callao de Lima and Numancia towards El Pilar; Bernabé Rodríguez in Ireneo González square; San Clemente street with Pi y Margall; and Suárez Guerra with Puerto Escondido.
On Villalba Hervás (Section III), a complete traffic closure is planned from the intersection of El Pilar with Suárez Guerra. This will also lead to closures on adjacent roads, such as San Francisco street at the junction of Cruz Verde with Doctor Allart, and the exit of the private car park in Plaza del Príncipe towards Villalba Hervás.
Due to the work, temporary detours, and the need to store machinery and materials, parking will be strictly prohibited along the entire former bike lane route on Méndez Núñez, El Pilar, and Villalba Hervás streets.
In Barrio Nuevo, the first stage of expanding and renovating the sewage network will begin on Monday. This project is expected to last 10 weeks. Traffic will be progressively closed on Drago street, then moving to a section of Verode street, between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM each day.
On Verode street, a detour will be set up using the parallel parking area on the right side, for uphill traffic towards Drago street. The road is wide enough to allow this, and the same work and closure schedule will apply.
