Santa Cruz to Pave Long-Delayed Juan Marín Vives Street in Llano del Moro
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has approved a 664,983-euro project to pave Juan Marín Vives Street in Llano del Moro, finally resolving long-standing accessibility and safety issues for local residents.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council is finally set to pave Juan Marín Vives Street in the Llano del Moro neighborhood, ending years of delays. The local Governing Board has approved the project, which will provide essential services and a paved road to one of the last remaining dirt streets in the Southwest district. The work is part of the "Suroeste Avanza" (Southwest Advances) municipal strategy and has a budget of 664,983 euros.
This project addresses a long-standing request from local residents, particularly regarding the safety of children walking to the Matías Llabré Verd primary school. Currently, the street becomes impassable during heavy rain. The new design will cover 1,750 square meters, featuring a 5.5-meter-wide road and sidewalks at least two meters wide, finally resolving the area's long-term accessibility issues.
The project is technically challenging because the street is a dead end, making a standard connection to the main sewage system impossible. To solve this, engineers will install a "Canarian well" at the lowest point of the street. This required complex coordination with the Island Water Council and securing permits from private landowners. The Urban Planning Department worked closely with the La Era y El Trigo neighborhood association to navigate these administrative hurdles, which had previously stalled the bidding process.
With these approvals now in place, the City Council will begin accepting bids from construction companies in the coming weeks. If the schedule stays on track, work is expected to begin this summer. The project should take about six months to complete, ensuring the street is fully modernized and equipped with essential services by the end of the next fiscal year.
