Santa Cruz to Open Exclusive Bus Lane on TF-11 to Ease Weekend Beach Traffic

Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council is introducing an exclusive bus lane on the TF-11 highway this weekend to help manage heavy traffic during the current heatwave. The lane will be in effect from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

The restricted lane will run from the Dársena Pesquera roundabout to the end of Avenida Marítima in San Andrés. This measure aims to keep Titsa’s 910 bus line running on time, as the service is currently seeing high demand—often exceeding 30,000 passengers on busy weekends—and is using extra-large buses to cope. By prioritizing public transport, the city hopes to prevent the gridlock that typically occurs when parking near Las Teresitas beach reaches capacity.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez described the move as part of a broader strategy to manage the heatwave by encouraging people to use public transport instead of private cars. Mobility Councilor Evelyn Alonso added that the initiative is not just for beachgoers; it is also intended to ensure that residents of San Andrés and the Anaga mountains can travel freely without being trapped in traffic.

This decision highlights the ongoing challenge of managing traffic in popular coastal areas, where limited parking often causes major congestion. The City Council is urging drivers to check parking availability on digital road signs or the municipal website before heading out, and strongly encourages the use of public transport for a smoother trip to the coast.
