The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has announced emergency repairs to the crumbling path at Roque de las Bodegas beach, with work scheduled for completion by early July.

Urgent repairs are coming to the coastline of the Anaga district following months of public complaints about the crumbling path to Roque de las Bodegas beach. The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has confirmed that rehabilitation work will begin within two weeks, with the site expected to be fully operational by early July.

The project, approved as an emergency measure by the local Governing Board, will be carried out by the Tenerife Island Council. Javier Rivero, the Councilor for Works and Infrastructure, stated that while a new staircase will be installed within the next fifteen days, further stabilization and improvement work will continue until the start of summer. These repairs are essential to address the damage caused by marine erosion and a lack of previous maintenance, which had left the structure in a dangerous state.

Maintaining infrastructure in the Anaga massif is a constant challenge due to the rugged terrain and harsh climate. District councilor Gladis de León noted that over 160 maintenance operations were carried out on the park’s trail network last year. However, these plans are often disrupted by heavy rainfall and landslides caused by storms. This highlights the difficulty of keeping the area safe and accessible, requiring the local government to respond quickly to the unpredictable forces of nature.
