Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has announced a €470,000 investment to completely renovate children's playgrounds in La Granja and García Sanabria parks, aiming for completion this year.

Investing in public playgrounds is crucial for making cities better places to live and strengthening communities. It shows local councils are committed to families and creating accessible spaces. With this in mind, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has announced a major upgrade for two of its main play areas.

Carlos Tarife, the Councillor for Public Services and Strategic Planning, said that the children's playgrounds in La Granja and García Sanabria will be completely redone this year. A total of 470,000 euros has been set aside for these projects. While this money is officially part of the 2026 municipal budget, the council aims to complete the work during the current financial year.

La Granja park is set to receive 30,000 euros. The plan is to focus on the sand area opposite the municipal offices, creating a large play space similar to the successful Cuchillitos de Tristán children's park in Ofra. This project will completely revamp the area, adding shade, new surfaces, and modern, themed, and inclusive play equipment.

García Sanabria park, on the other hand, will get a much bigger budget of 440,000 euros. This money is for renovating one of its two children's playgrounds – specifically, the one to the left of the Fountain of Fecundation. This area, which currently has a dirt surface, will get new paving, shade, and updated furniture. However, this renovation needs to be discussed first with the Cabildo's Historical Heritage department. This is because the botanical garden is historically important, showing how tricky it can be to work in places with significant cultural value.
