Santa Cruz is set to build a €1 million, inclusive children's park in La Gallega, becoming the second-largest on Tenerife, after a funding renewal and design improvements.

Santa Cruz will soon have a fantastic new children's park! The City Council has approved the plans for the Santa Catalina inclusive children's park, which will be located in La Gallega.

At over 10,000 square meters, it will be the second-largest children's park in Tenerife, after the one in Puerto de la Cruz.

The contract to design the park has been awarded to Jiménez Bazán Arquitectos for €71,000. They will be responsible for the design, overseeing the construction, and ensuring safety during the project. The total investment for this exciting project is one million euros.

The project was initially planned a few years ago with funding from the EDUSI strategy, supported by European funds through the Cabildo de Tenerife.

In 2022, a smaller project was developed, but it had to be limited due to budget restrictions. Important features like proper paving, drainage, lighting, and landscaping were left out.

The original funding was lost because the project wasn't completed in time. However, the City Council and the Cabildo signed a new agreement in June 2024 to include the park in the Suroeste Avanza program.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez said the project will not only create a large, inclusive park but also revitalize an underused area. It will be a great place for children of all abilities to play together.

The new park will be accessible, inclusive, and environmentally friendly. It will cater to children with different physical, sensory, and cognitive abilities, ensuring everyone can have fun.

The park will have different themed areas to encourage creativity, free play, sensory stimulation, teamwork, and quiet time.

The design will focus on balancing nature and urban space, with 75% of the area being green with trees and plants, and only 25% paved.

The park will be built on the central area, which is currently underused and has a bocce court, a small playground, and a bike track. It will be updated with new play equipment and spaces for relaxation.
