Santa Cruz to Begin Overnight Resurfacing of Francisco La Roche Avenue

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set to begin major roadwork on one of its most important streets, Francisco La Roche Avenue. The City Council is investing €526,000 to completely resurface the road, ensuring it remains durable for years to come.

To keep traffic moving during the day, the work will take place at night, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., between August 30 and September 2. The project has been awarded to the UTE Firmes Santa Cruz construction group.

Technically, the project is notable for its use of a seamless paving system. By using four paving machines at once, the council expects to create a more uniform and long-lasting road surface. The new asphalt will also include recycled rubber from old tires, a modern engineering technique that strengthens the road while reducing noise—a welcome benefit for residents in this busy area.

The work will be completed in three phases, moving from República de Honduras Street toward the Vía Litoral tunnel. During these hours, the Local Police will manage traffic detours, with vehicles being redirected at the San Sebastián Avenue and Rambla de Santa Cruz roundabouts.

Public transport will also be affected. From August 30 to September 4, nine bus lines (909, 910, 916, 917, 921, 945, 946, 947, and 970) will follow alternative routes. Several stops, including Hacienda, Estación Marítima, and Edificio Múltiples 1, will be temporarily suspended. Instead, passengers should use substitute stops at the Intercambiador, Anaga Avenue, and the Naval Command.

The City Council encourages commuters to check for route updates, as these necessary improvements will temporarily change how traffic flows through the lower part of the city.
