Santa Cruz to Begin Overnight Resurfacing of Avenida de Anaga
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is launching a 526,000-euro overnight resurfacing project on Avenida de Anaga from August 30 to September 2 to improve road durability and reduce traffic noise.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set to begin major roadwork on one of its busiest streets, Avenida Francisco La Roche, better known as Avenida de Anaga. The city council has allocated 526,000 euros to resurface a 410-meter stretch of this vital route, which currently suffers from significant wear and tear.
The project will be carried out by the joint venture UTE Firmes Santa Cruz. To ensure a smooth, durable finish, crews will use four paving machines simultaneously. According to Carlos Tarife, the Councilor for Public Services, this method allows the entire width of the road to be paved in one pass, eliminating seams between lanes and extending the asphalt's lifespan. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez added that the new materials will also help reduce traffic noise, providing a quieter environment for nearby residents and businesses.
To minimize disruption, the work will take place at night, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM, starting Sunday, August 30, and finishing on the morning of Wednesday, September 2. The project is divided into three phases:
- Night 1: A 150-meter stretch starting from Calle República de Honduras.
- Night 2: An additional 150-meter section.
- Night 3: The final 110 meters near the entrance to the Vía Litoral tunnel.
The Local Police will manage a special traffic plan during these hours, which will include temporary road closures and detours, particularly around the Avenida San Sebastián roundabout and the Rambla de Santa Cruz. This project is part of the city’s ongoing effort to maintain essential infrastructure while balancing road safety with the needs of local commuters and public transport.
