Santa Cruz to Begin €494,000 Overnight Renovation of Benito Pérez Armas Avenue

Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has announced a €494,000 renovation of Benito Pérez Armas Avenue, one of the city’s busiest roads. Part of the "Impulso Urbano" program, the project aims to improve road surfaces and increase traffic safety.

To keep the city moving, work will take place overnight, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., to avoid disrupting daytime traffic and local businesses. The project is split into four three-day stages. During these times, street parking will be suspended, and drivers will be directed to follow signposted detours via Bélgica and Reyes Católicos avenues.

Construction Schedule:

• Sept 1–4: Uphill, from Reyes Católicos to Comodoro Rolín.
• Sept 6–9: Uphill, from Comodoro Rolín to Islas Canarias Avenue.
• Sept 10–13: Downhill, from Islas Canarias to Pío Baroja.
• Sept 15–18: Downhill, from Pío Baroja to Reyes Católicos.

Public transport will also be affected. Nine bus lines (232, 903, 906, 908, 915, 923, 936, 974, and 975) will be diverted through routes like Tres de Mayo, La Salle, and San Sebastián during construction hours. Several stops—including Fragata Danmark, Parque La Granja, Benito Pérez Armas, and Cruz del Señor—will be temporarily closed. Passengers should use nearby alternative stops at the Tomé Cano Clinic, García Ramos, and Francisco Aguilar.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez and Public Services head Carlos Tarife stated that this investment is essential for modernizing the city’s infrastructure. The project is part of a broader effort to repair worn-out roads, improve safety, and ensure the long-term efficiency of the city’s transport network.
