Santa Cruz Taxi Drivers Threaten to Halt Valleseco Service Following Violent Attacks

Public transport safety in Santa Cruz de Tenerife has reached a breaking point following a series of violent attacks in the Valleseco neighborhood. The Taxi Guild (La Gremial del Taxi) reports that four drivers have been assaulted in recent days after projectiles were thrown at their vehicles.

These attacks consistently happen at night near the main entrance to the area. Because of this escalation, the Guild is warning that they may permanently stop serving the neighborhood to protect their drivers. While the organization suspects a group of minors may be responsible, authorities have yet to confirm this.

Zebenzuí Pérez, head of the Guild, has formally raised these concerns with the Local Police and the department led by Gladis de León. The taxi sector is calling for immediate action to ensure they can continue working safely without having to cut off transport services for Valleseco residents.

The City Council’s Security Delegate confirmed that police patrols have been increased in the area. However, the investigation is ongoing, and the individuals responsible for the vandalism have not yet been identified. The situation highlights the vulnerability of public transport workers during late-night hours and the urgent need for better coordination between drivers and security forces.
