Santa Cruz Tackles Parking Woes with Smart Sign System
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is investing €594,000 in a smart parking system with electronic signs and a mobile app to guide drivers to available spaces and reduce congestion.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is getting a smart upgrade to help drivers find parking. Ten electronic signs will be placed around the city to show real-time information about available parking spaces, both in public and private lots.
These signs will be located at key entry points, including the city entrance, Plaza de Toros, the northern access road, the Rambla, the exit from the pier near the Auditorium, Calderón de la Barca street, Avenida de Bélgica, the Víctor Zurita Soler roundabout, Avenida Barranco de Santos, and Bravo Murillo street. The goal is to guide drivers heading downtown directly to parking lots with free spaces.
The city council approved the project yesterday, earmarking €594,000 for the supply, installation, and setup of the parking information system. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez said this tech-based solution will make parking easier and improve the experience for residents by helping them quickly find available spots.
Evelyn Alonso, the councilor in charge of Mobility, explained that the system should also reduce traffic congestion. The project includes the installation of the electronic signs, which will display up-to-the-minute information on parking availability.
Alonso added that the system will feature a central management platform, allowing parking operators to update space availability and manage information across different channels. There will also be a mobile app for residents, providing information on parking spaces, directions to the nearest lot, rate and schedule details, and potentially even payment options.
