A state of emergency has been declared in Santa Cruz de Tenerife due to extreme heat and the threat of fires, mass events have been canceled, and access to forest areas has been restricted.

The city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is taking safety seriously! Due to the intense heat and the threat of forest fires, the city council has declared a state of emergency and implemented a special plan.

What does this mean for you? All outdoor recreational activities scheduled for Saturday, August 9th have been canceled. This includes sporting events, concerts, and even the Sunday flea market.

In addition, walking along forest roads and visiting Las Mesas Park is now prohibited. Fire pits have already been closed there. These restrictions will remain in effect until the heat subsides.

City authorities remind residents that certain prohibitions established by local authorities were already in place.

Weather forecasters are predicting temperatures of up to 44 degrees Celsius during the day and no less than 25-30 degrees at night, even in the mountains. Therefore, please take care of yourselves!

Here are some important tips:

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, especially during the midday heat.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Avoid strenuous physical activity.
  • Never leave children, the elderly, or animals in a closed car!

Beaches, especially Las Teresitas, are expected to be crowded. Therefore, if possible, it is best to use public transportation.

For your convenience, you can check the city council website to see how many parking spaces are available near the beach. There is information about the main parking lot (355 spaces) and the parking lot near the sand (963 spaces).

And one more useful thing: special electronic displays are in operation on the approaches to the beach, showing whether there are free spaces. This helps to reduce traffic jams on weekends and holidays.
