Santa Cruz Spends €113,912 on Road Changes After Bike Lane Removal
Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council spent €113,912 on road modifications for El Pilar, Méndez Núñez, and Villalba Hervás streets following the removal of a bike lane and a High Court ruling.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has spent €113,912 on road changes for El Pilar, Méndez Núñez, and Villalba Hervás streets. This work was carried out after a bike lane in those areas was removed.
Carlos Tarife, the city's Councilor for Public Services, announced this yesterday during a municipal council meeting. He was responding to a question from the Vox political group. Their spokesperson, Alejandro Gómez, had asked about the final cost of taking out the bike lane in these areas.
Tarife was firm in his reply, stating, "I am not aware that the bike lane has been dismantled." He explained that "what has been done is a modification of the layout on three streets in the city center." This action resulted from the City Council's decision to withdraw its appeal against a ruling by the High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands. That court ruling had previously halted these specific road works, which were part of the city's Mobility plan.
