Santa Cruz Seeks 10 Canarian Artists for Shop Revitalization
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is seeking ten Canarian artists to revitalize vacant shops in the Rambla and Salamanca areas with vibrant art as part of the 'Canarian Creators with Local Commerce' initiative.
Starting today, Monday, November 3rd, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Development Society is looking for ten Canarian artists, illustrators, designers, and muralists. They will be chosen to create eye-catching art on shop windows and building fronts in the Rambla and Salamanca areas.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez announced this new project, called 'Canarian Creators with Local Commerce.' It's part of a larger plan to improve businesses in the Rambla and Salamanca commercial areas. The mayor explained that the goal is to use striking art to make these shopping districts more appealing. Ten artists from the Canary Islands will be picked to bring life back to ten empty shops in these areas.
Carmen Pérez, CEO of the Development Society, added that the project specifically aims to refresh ten vacant commercial spaces with vibrant art. She said, "We've opened registration for visual artists, illustrators, graphic designers, and muralists to take part. We want to turn these empty spaces into exciting opportunities, showcasing our city's identity through art and encouraging new businesses to open in these key areas."
Pérez noted that while there will be a shared theme, artists will have creative freedom to interpret it, as long as they meet technical and accessibility standards. Each artwork must cover at least 2 square meters per shop, be clear to see from five meters away, and include the campaign's main message along with elements of local identity.
She also highlighted that the ten chosen artists will get significant promotion from the city and the media, boosting their visibility and professional careers. Registration opens on November 3rd and will close once ten artists have been selected.
Artists interested in participating can sign up for free from November 3rd using an online form. Applications will be reviewed based on technical criteria and participation rules found on the Development Society's website: www.sociedad-desarrollo.com. The organizers may reject proposals that don't meet these requirements.
'Canarian Creators with Local Commerce' is part of the Commercial Transformation Plan for the Rambla and Salamanca areas. It aims to make the city more attractive, promote new business opportunities, and celebrate local culture by linking local artists with neighborhood shops. This larger transformation plan receives funding from the European Union through the FEDER Canarias 2021–2027 Program, under the "Canarias Smart Commercial Destination" initiative.
