Santa Cruz City will implement road closures and parking restrictions on select dates in November 2025 for the filming of 'El laberinto de las mariposas'.

The Santa Cruz City Council's Mobility department has announced upcoming road closures and parking restrictions in various parts of the city. These changes are due to the filming of the movie 'El laberinto de las mariposas' (The Butterfly Labyrinth) on November 3, 12, 19, 20, and 21, 2025. Streets will be closed and parking restricted intermittently, depending on where filming is taking place.

Restrictions will start in the Southwest district. On El Cedro Street (CIAT side), parallel parking on the right side (heading towards El Requinto Street) will be suspended for about 50 meters. Angled parking on the CIAT side will also be suspended for about 80 meters. These suspensions will be in effect from 8:00 PM on Sunday, November 2, until 8:00 PM on Monday, November 3.

Also in the Southwest district, on Volcán Birigoyo Street (CIAT side), parallel parking on both sides of the road will be suspended for about 105 meters. This restriction will also run from 8:00 PM on Sunday, November 2, until 8:00 PM on Monday, November 3. Both of these locations are in the Southwest district of the capital.

In the Centro-Ifara district, La Marina Street will be closed at Patricio Estévanez, specifically the section near the Callejón Bouza intersection, on November 12, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. During these intermittent closures, traffic from Villalba Hervás Street and La Marina Street (Plaza Cabildo section) will be rerouted via Marítima Avenue and Callejón Bouza. Vehicles coming from Marítima Avenue (near Francisco La Roche Avenue and Plaza Cabildo) will also be diverted through Callejón Bouza.

On November 12, 2025, from 12:01 AM to 10:00 PM:

  • On Marítima Avenue, about 50 meters (15 spaces) of angled parking on the right side (heading towards La Marina) will be suspended.
  • On La Marina Street, parking on both sides of the road, just past the Callejón Bouza intersection, will be suspended. This includes about 35 meters on the left side and 20 meters on the right side.

Please note that any intermittent closures will be managed by the film crew and must not last longer than 5 minutes. These closures will be clearly marked by flaggers wearing high-visibility reflective clothing and using hand signals.

Also on La Marina Street, on November 12, from 12:01 AM to 10:00 PM, parallel parking on the right side (heading towards Callejón Bouza) will be suspended:

  • About 20 meters in front of numbers 15 and 17 (a loading and unloading zone).
  • About 50 meters in front of numbers 19 to 21 (taxi and bus stands).

Because the taxi stand on La Marina Street will be used for filming, it will be temporarily moved. Taxis should use the parallel parking spaces on the right side of Marítima Avenue, just past the entrance to the Plaza de España parking lot, for about 35 meters. The existing bus stop in the area will remain in its current location and must not be obstructed.
