Santa Cruz Residents Report Pest Infestation Following La Rosa Street Renovation Issues
Residents of Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s newly renovated La Rosa Street are demanding city intervention after misaligned waste containers created gaps that are attracting pests and posing health risks.
The recent renovation of La Rosa Street in Santa Cruz de Tenerife has been overshadowed by issues with the placement of waste containers. According to the Barrio del Toscal de las Tribulaciones Association, the current arrangement of these bins is causing health concerns for both local residents and business owners.
The issue stems from a mismatch between the original renovation plans and where the bins are currently located. Residents report that delivery vehicles have pushed the containers out of their designated spots, meaning they no longer fit correctly. This misalignment has left gaps around the base of the bins, which locals say is attracting cockroaches.
This is a major concern for the area, which is home to many busy restaurants and sees a high volume of foot traffic. The fact that pests are appearing in a street that recently underwent a major modernization project—including new sidewalks and updated utilities—suggests a lack of proper oversight since the work was completed.
In response, residents are calling on the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council and the waste management contractor to carry out an immediate inspection. They are demanding that the bins be moved back to their intended positions or that a solution be found to seal the gaps and prevent further unsanitary conditions. So far, the City Council has not commented on why the bins were moved or whether there is a plan to fix the problem.
