Santa Cruz Reroutes Bus Lines for La Salud Urban Renewal Project
Starting September 1, Santa Cruz de Tenerife will reroute bus lines 904, 906, and 911 in the La Salud neighborhood to accommodate a 5.3 million euro urban renewal project focused on improving road safety and accessibility.
Starting September 1, public transport in the La Salud neighborhood will change as part of a major urban renewal project in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. To allow for road improvements on Calle Güímar, the city council is rerouting bus lines 904, 906, and 911 for the duration of the construction.
Buses heading toward Cuesta Piedra will be diverted from Calle José Fonspertius onto Calle Cornisa, Calle Tacoronte, and Calle Granadilla before returning to their normal routes. Because of this, the stops at Pedro Bernardo Fortall (9223) and Güímar (9224) will be closed. Passengers should use stops 9222 and 9225 as alternatives.
These changes are part of a broader 5.3 million euro investment in the area. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez stated that the project aims to modernize the neighborhood, with plans ranging from renovating the Plaza de las 1.000 Viviendas to improving pedestrian access between Calle Cornisa and Calle Güímar.
The Department of Mobility and Universal Accessibility has allocated nearly 1.8 million euros specifically for the upgrades to Calle Güímar and Calle Cornisa. The city council says these improvements address long-standing requests from residents regarding road safety and accessibility—a priority given the neighborhood’s steep terrain. While the bus route changes may cause temporary inconvenience, officials emphasize that the work is essential for creating a more functional and accessible district.
