The second Ángel Guimerá and Jorge youth theater competition has been announced in Santa Cruz de Tenerife for young theater enthusiasts aged 14-18, with the aim of supporting their creativity and introducing them to the classics.
The city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has announced the second Ángel Guimerá y Jorge Youth Theater Competition. It is for young theater groups from the island, with participants aged 14 to 18. The organizers want to support young people interested in theater, help them showcase their talent, and introduce them to the works of Ángel Guimerá y Jorge.
The first competition was successful in January 2025, with seven youth groups participating. This year, the Tenerife Auditorium and La Granja Space have joined the organization to raise awareness of the competition.
Registration for the second competition is open from October 1 to December 19, 2025. The winners will be awarded on January 25, 2026, at the Tenerife Auditorium. The winners will be able to show their performance on January 31 at La Granja Space.
The Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, said that these awards are important because they support young people and strengthen the connection between the Guimerá Theater and schools. The city is proud to help youth theater develop.
The Councilor for Culture, Santiago Díaz Mejías, added that the competition should be a place where teenagers can express themselves, their creativity, and find friends. With the support of the Tenerife Auditorium and La Granja Space, this project will become even better.
The Councilor for Social Policy, Education, and Youth, Charín González, also supported this initiative, which helps young people discover their talent.
Adriana Pérez, who received the award for Best Female Role in the previous competition, said that participating in the competition is an opportunity to meet others and show that there is a vibrant and important theater in the Canary Islands. And Darío Hernández, who received the award for Best Male Role, thanked the city authorities for supporting young people who are passionate about theater.
The competition will award prizes for Best Direction, Performance, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor and Actress, Cast, Scenography and Lighting, Costume Design, and Theatrical Adaptation. The jury may also award special mentions.
