Police in Santa Cruz de Tenerife have arrested three men suspected of sexually assaulting a 48-year-old woman. The incident reportedly happened at a home in the La Salud area. This quick police response shows how seriously crimes against sexual freedom are taken under Spanish law.
The arrests took place on Sunday morning. A member of the public called the police after finding the woman in the street. Officers arrived and spoke to the woman, who said that the night before, she had met one of the suspects, L.B.G., 30. She went to his home, where two other men, A.F.G.F., 31, and C.M.L.M., 47, joined them. The woman told police she was held down and her clothes were removed, stopping her from calling for help. She said that despite her clear refusal, L.B.G. sexually assaulted her, with the other two men actively helping to restrain her.
The woman managed to escape the house when the alleged attackers were distracted. She grabbed some of her clothes and ran into the street, where people helped her. Police immediately took her to a local health centre and then to Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria University Hospital for medical and forensic care, following standard procedure for such cases. At the same time, another police unit went to the house where the incident allegedly happened. They identified and arrested the three men. Officers collected the victim's clothing from the scene and secured the area. The apartment was kept under police guard for a specialized unit of the National Police to investigate and gather evidence.
