Santa Cruz has opened a new €234,000 temporary car park on San Martín street, providing 64 car and 21 motorcycle spaces to replace parking lost during La Rosa street renovations and meet high demand in the El Toscal neighborhood.

The Santa Cruz City Council has opened a new temporary car park at San Martín street, 14, to serve La Rosa street. This facility aims to replace some of the parking spaces lost due to ongoing renovation work on La Rosa street. It provides 64 spaces for cars and 21 for motorcycles. The project, which involved demolishing old garages in the El Toscal area, cost 234,000 euros, Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez confirmed.

Javier Rivero, the Councilor for Public Works and Municipal Heritage, explained that the main goal was to create new surface parking to meet the high demand in the El Toscal neighborhood. He added that the investment covered not only the demolition but also preparing the site to connect with another section that was already finished. This entire process, from start to finish, took just over four months.

The initial work involved demolishing and removing all existing structures, including ceilings and other fixtures. Following this, roofs, walls, and beams were taken down, preparing the site for its new purpose.

Purificación Dávila, the Councilor for the Centro-Ifara district, highlighted that the work began last summer, as planned. This timing was chosen specifically to avoid disturbing the two nearby schools with noise or inconvenience. She called the new parking "excellent news," as it provides more spaces in El Toscal and addresses a clear need from residents in that part of the city center.
