Santa Cruz Municipal School of Music Marks 25th Anniversary with Park Performances
Santa Cruz de Tenerife celebrates the 25th anniversary of its Municipal School of Music this Saturday with a full day of public performances at García Sanabria Park.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its Municipal School of Music this Saturday, June 6, with a day of public performances at García Sanabria Park.
The event is a collaborative effort involving students from the Fernando Estévez School of Art and Design and the Professional Conservatory of Music of Tenerife. By moving academic performances into an urban setting, the organizers aim to make music more accessible to the community. Throughout the day, from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., visitors can enjoy a wide variety of performances, including piano recitals, chamber music, choirs, bands, and children’s orchestras held at various spots across the park.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez praised the school for its role in fostering local talent and strengthening the community over the last quarter-century. Santiago Díaz Mejías, head of the Culture department, added that the event is part of a broader strategy to bring culture out of traditional venues and into public spaces, turning them into hubs for artistic learning and enjoyment.
This initiative highlights the importance of local government support in keeping the arts alive. By bringing together students from different educational levels, the program not only gives performers a stage but also reinforces music’s role in bringing people together—a vital step in ensuring the future of the performing arts in the Canary Islands.
