Santa Cruz Municipal School of Music Marks 25th Anniversary with Open-Air Concert
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Municipal School of Music is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a major open-air concert in García Sanabria Park this June as it prepares to expand its curriculum to include vocal training.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Municipal School of Music is celebrating its 25th anniversary, marking a quarter-century as a cornerstone of arts education in the capital. To celebrate, the Autonomous Organization of Culture (OAC) is planning a major event this June, turning García Sanabria Park into an open-air auditorium as part of the Santa Cruz Suena program.
The anniversary will honor the school’s history at Casa Sixto Machado while highlighting its current success, with 615 students currently enrolled. The school offers training in ten instruments, including piano, violin, cello, percussion, and various wind instruments. Looking ahead, the school plans to expand into vocal training. Culture Councilor Santiago Díaz-Mejías announced that a pilot workshop for fifty people will be held in April to test the program, with the goal of making it a permanent part of the curriculum next year.
The June celebration will be a collaborative effort, featuring the Higher Conservatory of Music, the Fernando Estévez School, the School of Actors, and the Municipal Band. Two stages will be set up to showcase the students' talents and the variety of training available at the school.
Beyond the anniversary, the city’s musical calendar remains busy. Although the Municipal Band has moved rehearsals to Valleseco due to construction at Viera y Clavijo Park, they continue to perform in the city center. The Plaza de La Candelaria will host two major events in May: a bolero recital with Olga Cerpa and Mestisay on the 9th, and a symphonic performance with the group De Lokos on the 16th. These events, alongside the White Voices Choirs program—which involves 550 students across 16 schools—highlight the city’s ongoing commitment to making culture a vital part of life in Santa Cruz.
