The Masonic Temple of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set to undergo a 200,000-euro restoration featuring immersive 3D video mapping to recreate its historic vaulted ceiling for public visitors by December.

The Masonic Temple of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, one of the few remaining buildings of its kind in Europe, is entering a new phase of restoration. The city’s Culture Department plans to transform the temple’s Lodge Room into an immersive experience using advanced audiovisual technology.

The project aims to turn the building’s vaulted ceiling into a major cultural and tourist attraction. By using 3D video mapping, LED lighting, and special effects, the city hopes to recreate the visual impact of the original ceiling paintings that have since been lost. These projections will also serve as a narrative tool, explaining the temple’s history and construction. The project is currently undergoing feasibility studies with the Cabildo’s Historical Heritage Commission, with the goal of opening to the public by this December.

Councilor for Culture Santiago Díaz-Mejías announced that the immersive experience will cost over 200,000 euros. The city plans to open a tender for the work, allowing the installation of the audiovisual equipment and the restoration of the vault to happen simultaneously.

Additionally, a separate 350,000-euro budget has been set aside to acquire historical artifacts. The City Council is currently in talks with various Masonic lodges and is waiting for a decision from the Ministry of Democratic Memory regarding the loan of documents and objects from the 19th and 20th centuries. There is a particular focus on securing archives from the Añaza lodge, which are currently held in Salamanca.

This restoration is part of a wider effort to preserve and promote local heritage. The Culture Department is linking this project to other initiatives, such as cataloging Sacred and Civil Art, hosting historical reenactments, and continuing the popular "Escape City" event, which focuses on the Battle of July 25, 1797. Once complete, these efforts will firmly establish the Masonic Temple as a key center for interpreting Masonic history in Spain.
