Santa Cruz Marks 131st Anniversary of Ángel Guimerá's "María Rosa" with New Edition
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is commemorating the 131st anniversary of Ángel Guimerá's iconic play "María Rosa" with a special presentation of a new edition and a dramatic reading at the TEA Central Municipal Library.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is celebrating a significant anniversary for one of its most famous plays. The Guimerá Theater and the Autonomous Body of Culture are honoring "María Rosa" (1894), a masterpiece by playwright Ángel Guimerá y Jorge, on the 131st anniversary of its first performance.
This Thursday at 7:00 PM, the TEA Central Municipal Library will host the presentation of a new edition of the play. This collaboration with Ediciones Antígona offers a faithful and well-researched translation of the theatrical work.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez emphasized Guimerá's importance, saying, "Guimerá is a key figure in our city's cultural identity. Marking over 130 years since the premiere of his most iconic play with an edition that captures its original spirit is a fitting tribute and a source of great pride for Santa Cruz."
The event will include translator Joan Martori, who brought the play into its new edition; Conchita Piña, an editor from Ediciones Antígona; and actors Ylenia Quintero, Adriana Hernández, and Darío Hernández. They will perform a dramatic reading directed by Oswaldo Bordón of the Hojarasca company.
