In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the police seized 975 counterfeit items of well-known brands at the Sunday market, emphasizing the importance of combating the shadow economy and protecting consumers.
In the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, police conducted an inspection at the Sunday market and seized as many as 975 counterfeit items of well-known brands.
947 items of clothing were taken from one stall: T-shirts, trousers, caps and underwear, which copied Calvin Klein, Vans, Scalpers, Hugo Boss, Nike, Adidas and other popular brands. Another 28 fakes were found at another stall.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council says that the fakes are made quite well, and it is difficult for buyers to recognize them. The police are currently studying the seized items and preparing documents to file a complaint in court.
Gladys de León, who is responsible for public safety in the City Council, stressed that such inspections are very important. She wants trade in the city to be conducted honestly and safely for people.
In her opinion, the sale of fakes harms not only brands and local entrepreneurs, but also buyers who think they are buying quality goods. She assured that the police will continue to monitor the market and other points of sale to prevent the spread of fakes.
De León also urged people not to buy fakes, as this supports the shadow economy and can be dangerous to health. The City Council reminded that the sale and purchase of counterfeit goods is a violation of the law, for which one can bear criminal responsibility.
