Santa Cruz will host its first "Tardeo +60" event this Sunday in Plaza del Príncipe, offering music, dance, and traditional festivities to promote active aging and social connection for seniors.

Santa Cruz is hosting its first "Tardeo +60" event this Sunday. This new initiative, led by the Canary Islands government's department for seniors and active participation, with help from the Santa Cruz City Council (specifically the Centro-Ifara District and Social Welfare department), aims to encourage active aging and create spaces for different generations to connect. The event will run from 4 PM to 9 PM tomorrow in the Plaza del Príncipe, transforming it into a lively hub of music, dance, and community spirit.

The program includes several performances, with Santa Cruz singer Jadel headlining. He will perform a special set designed to entertain everyone. As it's the day before San Andrés, there will also be a traditional toast with chestnuts and wine, adding to the festive mood and celebrating local customs.

Santa Cruz Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez praised the "excellent coordination between administrations" that made this new project possible. He highlighted the importance of teamwork between the Canary Islands government, the City Council, and especially the Centro-Ifara District and Social Welfare department, who are "promoting innovative initiatives to improve the quality of life of our seniors."

The Mayor described Tardeo +60 as a "distinct, attractive, and necessary alternative" that encourages healthy habits and provides places for people to connect and enjoy community life. Bermúdez added that this event "places our seniors at the center, recognizing their vitality, their enthusiasm for participation, and the essential role they play in the social life of Santa Cruz."

Purificación Dávila, the councilor for the Centro-Ifara District, pointed out that the event "highlights the importance of the Plaza del Príncipe, a perfect spot for community, music, and fun for our seniors." Dávila also mentioned that the district is working to "ensure that squares and neighborhoods remain lively, safe places with opportunities for all ages." She added that this first Tardeo +60 is "a tribute to the joy of living and to those who have built the city, encouraging Santa Cruz to continue to be filled with activity and a good atmosphere."

Charín González, the councilor for Social Welfare, explained that this gathering "is part of the city's strategy for active participation, aiming to build a more inclusive, accessible, and committed city that addresses the needs of older people." González stressed that Tardeo +60 "is not a one-off event, but the start of a leisure model that we hope to make a regular part of our programming for seniors."

Verónica Meseguer, the Director General for Seniors and Active Participation for the Canary Islands government, clarified that "this event comes from requests made by older people, and we will be holding it in various towns across all the islands." She also stated that "Tardeo +60 is part of the Maresía Seniors Plan, which we launched to promote active aging, social participation, innovation, and protect the rights of older people in the Canary Islands."

The Santa Cruz City Council invites everyone, especially the city's older residents, to enjoy this festive day. It promises a blend of tradition, music, and community, and aims to become a regular fixture in Santa Cruz's social calendar.
