Santa Cruz Launches 'Distrito Joven' Summer Program for Youth

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is hosting a new summer program for young people called "Distrito Joven" (Youth District). Running throughout August, the initiative combines fun activities with learning and environmental awareness. Because space is limited, those interested must register in advance.

The program, which continues until August 29, offers a variety of free workshops and events:

• Creative Arts: The Lázaro Siluto Youth Center will host a clay sculpture workshop on August 4, 5, 6, and 11, where participants can learn modeling techniques.
• Technology: The "Total Gaming" event at the Mascareño Youth Center on August 18, 19, 20, 25, and 26 focuses on video games to encourage teamwork and strategy.
• Nature and Outdoors: The program highlights the island’s natural beauty with a boat trip to Antequera on August 7, followed by a two-day camping and hiking trip in the Anaga Natural Reserve on August 12 and 13. The nature series ends on August 29 with an educational hike through the Anaga Palm Grove to learn about local biodiversity.
• Beach Activities: After an opening event on August 1, Las Teresitas beach will host "Tardeo Joven" on August 21, featuring traditional sports, board games, and outdoor painting.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez and Councilor for Education and Youth, Charín González, emphasized that these activities are designed to help young people socialize, build personal skills, and stay engaged during the summer break. The program aims to provide equal access to educational leisure while encouraging the responsible use of local resources.
