Santa Cruz Launches Competition for Valleseco Waterfront Master Plan
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is launching an ideas competition to develop a "Municipal Strategic Project" for the Valleseco waterfront, aiming to create a lively, connected area with new sea access and a Master Plan expected to start in 2026.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council is looking for new and strong ideas to create a lively, connected waterfront. This new area will link the Valleseco neighborhood better with the rest of the city, according to Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez.
To achieve this, the City Council's Governing Board has named the development of this coastal area a "Municipal Strategic Project." They've started a competition to gather ideas for a future Master Plan. This plan aims to open up a new way to access the sea by connecting El Bloque and Los Charcos.
The mayor added that this project is a "major step" in shaping the future of one of the city's most valuable areas, which has huge potential for change.
The project will look at the coastline, the ravine, and the urban parts of Valleseco together. The goal is to transform the area, keeping in mind good architecture, practical uses, cultural importance, historical value, and environmental protection.
Working with the Port Authority, the competition will choose a winning idea to form the basis of the Valleseco Master Plan. Work on this plan is expected to start in 2026.
This initiative will give people better access to the sea, improve the natural beauty of the coast, and create new opportunities for the city. Teams interested in submitting ideas have 45 days from when the tender is announced on the State Contracting Platform.
Carlos Tarife, the Councillor for Public Services, noted that the Port Authority is a "key partner." He said the project can only move forward with "coordinated work and a shared vision," showing a "real desire to keep improving the city."
The councillor added that Valleseco needs a "complete plan" to improve transport, update public spaces, and strengthen its natural connection to the sea and the ravine. He said this competition aims to achieve just that.
The Santa Cruz City Council believes that a full plan for Valleseco is crucial for improving life in the neighborhood, making it better connected, and creating new public spaces along its coast.
The Santa Cruz City Council is holding an ideas competition to help create the Valleseco Master Plan, which aims to open a new access point to the sea. The top three proposals will receive prize money for their work.
The first prize winner will get 6,000 euros and could also be chosen to draft the actual project. The second prize is 5,000 euros, and the third is 3,000 euros.
The City Council also stated that a jury of city and Port Authority experts will judge the designs. They will review all proposals anonymously, meaning they won't know who submitted them.
