Santa Cruz's Mobility department has implemented road closures, parking restrictions, and bus stop changes starting January 9th for the 2026 Carnival Festivities' "Inaugural Act and Presentation of Candidates" event.

The City Council's Mobility department, at the request of Santa Cruz Festivities, has implemented road closures and parking restrictions starting Friday, January 9th. These measures are in place for the "Inaugural Act and Presentation of Candidates" event, a part of the 2026 Carnival Festivities. The event itself runs from January 14th to 16th, with additional days needed before and after for setting up and taking down equipment.

Road Closures and Traffic Diversions:

  • Marítima Avenue: The section in front of numbers 3-5-7 (the former Capricho bar) will be closed from January 14th to 16th, including the setup and takedown days. Access to the Plaza de España car park will remain open. Traffic from Francisco La Roche Avenue will be diverted to the Túnel Vía Litoral. Vehicles approaching Plaza de España from La Marina Street will only be allowed to enter the Plaza de España car park. These restrictions are due to a general rehearsal scheduled for January 16th, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 11:30 PM.

  • Cabildo and La Marina Street: The road section in front of the Cabildo facade, between Bravo Murillo Street and Marítima Avenue, will have traffic redirected via La Marina Street and General Gutiérrez Street. This diversion will be in effect from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM on January 14th, 15th, and 16th, for the general rehearsal and the Inaugural Gala. On La Marina Street, between General Gutiérrez Street and Villalba Hervás Street, traffic will also be diverted via General Gutiérrez. Vehicles on Villalba Hervás Street can still turn onto La Marina as usual, following the same schedule.

Parking Restrictions:

Parking will be restricted from 12:00 AM on January 14th until 11:30 PM on January 16th, 2026, in the following areas:

  • Marítima Avenue: Angled parking spaces on the right side (heading towards Francisco La Roche Avenue), and parallel parking spaces located after the Plaza de España car park entrance and before the Titsa reserved area. Any existing parking reservations in these spots must be cleared.
  • General Gutiérrez Street: Parallel parking spaces on the right side (heading towards Imeldo Serís Street), specifically in front of number 4, which is a general loading and unloading zone.

Bus Stop Changes:

The local transport company in Santa Cruz has announced changes to bus stops for lines 909, 910, 914, 916, 917, 920, 921, 945, 946, 947, and 970.

  • Lines 909 and 920 (towards Muelle Norte): From San Sebastián Avenue, buses will divert through the Hacienda roundabout, enter the Plaza España Tunnel, and then proceed to Francisco La Roche Avenue before returning to their normal route.
  • Lines 909, 910, 914, 916, 917, 921, 945, 946, 947, and 970 (towards Intercambiador): From Francisco La Roche Avenue, buses will travel through the Plaza España Tunnel.
  • Cancelled Stops: The Cabildo bus stop is cancelled; use the Maritime Station stop as an alternative. The Plaza de España stop is also cancelled; use the Plaza de Europa stop as a substitute.
