Santa Cruz Implements New Las Mesas Park Rules, 24-Hour Security
Santa Cruz City Council has introduced new rules, 24-hour security, and facility repairs for Las Mesas Park to protect the public space and combat vandalism.
The Santa Cruz City Council has introduced new rules for Las Mesas Park. These rules cover how the park is managed, maintained, and used. The goal is to keep the park running smoothly and protect this public space, especially after some recent acts of vandalism.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez explained, "Las Mesas Park is a vital place for many families to relax and spend time together, and we must protect it. We are taking strong action to look after the park and make sure everyone can enjoy it safely and responsibly."
As part of these efforts, the Presidency Department, headed by Purificación Dávila, has started a 24-hour security service. This will increase patrols in the park and allow for quick responses if anything happens. Ms. Dávila stressed, "Having constant security sends a clear message: this park is for everyone, and we won't let a few bad acts spoil a place that people have embraced with such enthusiasm. We are working to ensure that everyone who visits Las Mesas finds it safe, tidy, and respected."
Additionally, the Municipal Heritage Department, led by Javier Rivero, has begun repairs on the park's bathrooms. The goal is to get them working properly again and keep this public facility well-maintained. Mr. Rivero stated, "Fixing the bathrooms is a top priority, and it's part of our promise to keep all facilities in good shape. Our aim is to make sure the park works as it should and isn't damaged again by vandalism, which harms something that belongs to all of us."
The City Council also wants to remind everyone about the rules for Las Mesas Park. These rules must be followed closely so that everyone can enjoy the park together. The park is open from 8 AM to 7 PM from November to April, and from 8 AM to 9 PM from May to October. You can use the designated cooking areas only between 10 AM and 5 PM in winter, and between 10 AM and 7 PM in summer.
Please note that camping is not allowed. You also cannot use portable barbecues, ride horses, drive motor vehicles, or cycle through pedestrian areas. Staying overnight in the parking lot, reserving tables, bringing amplified sound equipment, or letting pets roam unleashed are also forbidden.
The City Council asks all visitors to help look after the park and keep it in good condition for everyone to enjoy. If you see any problems, please contact the new security service or use the city's regular customer service channels.
