Santa Cruz de Tenerife is hosting its sixth annual Tenerife Gastro Christmas Market Fest. The event takes place in Plaza de España until January 6th, offering cultural, food, and family fun.
Running for over three weeks, the festival features local food, live music, workshops, kids' activities, and cooking experiences. Entry is free, and the market opens daily at 5:00 PM.
This year's music lineup includes both Spanish and international artists like Despistaos, Fran Perea, and Maldita Nerea. However, Leoni Torres's concert, planned for the weekend, was cancelled because of a weather alert.
Organizers spent months preparing to create a program of over 20 days of free activities for everyone, including family workshops, food events, shows, and live music.
The festival offers a range of food experiences and hands-on workshops. These include "Gustostito – Mojos," a family workshop where participants learn to make and taste traditional Canarian sauces; "Engofiados – Gofios," which explores gofio (toasted grain flour) and its importance in Canarian cooking; "Lactium – Cheeses & Chocolate," a session pairing local cheeses with artisan chocolate; and "Alisius – Cookshow," a live cooking demonstration by chef Diana Marcelino, highlighting local ingredients and native Canarian animal breeds.
Each day, the Tenerife Gastro Christmas Market Fest offers concerts, shows, kids' activities, tastings, family workshops, and other attractions. The "Gastro Zone" features food stalls with dishes from various cultures and styles, next to an area for crafts and small businesses.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council says the festival is committed to reducing waste, promoting recycling, and minimizing its environmental footprint. This ensures the event is eco-friendly.
Last year's Tenerife Gastro Christmas Market Fest generated over 14.5 million euros for the local economy and attracted more than 100,000 visitors, including both tourists and local residents.
