Santa Cruz Hosts 18th Plenilunio Festival Celebrating Local Heritage
The 18th edition of Plenilunio Santa Cruz returns from October 2 to 4, featuring a diverse program of cultural activities, historical reenactments, and guided tours across the city’s most iconic landmarks.
The 18th edition of Plenilunio Santa Cruz is set to bring the city’s history to life, using its most iconic landmarks to foster community connection. Organized by the City Council, the event aims to move beyond traditional tourism by highlighting local heritage and strengthening the city’s identity.
Running from October 2 to 4, the festival features a packed schedule coordinated by the Society for Development. A major highlight is the opening of the Masonic Temple, a site of significant national architectural importance. Visitors can take part in "Mystery in the Temple," an investigative activity held on Friday and Saturday. These sessions are free, but space is limited to 40 people per group, with spots available on a first-come, first-served basis at the venue.
Other key locations across the city will also host special events. The Captaincy General Palace opens its doors on Saturday, accompanied by a performance from the Canary Islands Command Unit at Plaza Weyler. Meanwhile, the San Rafael and San Roque Cemetery will host "Doubloons for Eternity," a series of dramatized tours that require advance registration via the event’s website.
The Almeyda Military Historical Museum has planned a full program featuring historical reenactments, fencing demonstrations, and various workshops. Additionally, the Museum of Fine Arts and MUNA (Museum of Nature and Archaeology) will offer extended hours, guided tours of current exhibitions like "Huella" and "Concomitancias," and specialized workshops.
The weekend concludes on Sunday with more cemetery tours, a classic military vehicle display at the Almeyda Fort, and creative activities at MUNA, including makeup workshops.
Organizers, supported by the Zona Centro association and FAUCA, are encouraging visitors to use public transport or bicycles to help keep the event sustainable.
