The twelfth edition of the Santa Cruz Extreme trail running race returns to Tenerife’s Anaga Rural Park this Saturday, October 17, featuring four distances while prioritizing environmental sustainability within the protected Biosphere Reserve.

This Saturday, October 17, the twelfth edition of the Santa Cruz Extreme will turn the Anaga Rural Park into the heart of Canary Islands trail running. Supported by the local city council and the Santa Cruz Sostenible Canary Foundation, the event is a model for hosting sports in protected areas, balancing active tourism with the preservation of the local Biosphere Reserve.

Organized by Gesport Canarias, the race schedule begins at 8:00 a.m. at Las Teresitas beach with the 42-kilometer course. Other distances follow: the 25-kilometer race starts from Taganana at 9:30 a.m., the 18-kilometer from Afur at 10:30 a.m., and the 10-kilometer from Catalanes at 11:00 a.m. All runners will finish at Plaza de España, where awards ceremonies will take place between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Sustainability remains a top priority due to the ecological sensitivity of the Anaga massif. Organizers have put strict protocols in place to minimize the environmental impact of the runners, reflecting the importance of protecting high-value natural areas. Participants can collect their bibs on Friday, October 16, at Plaza de España between 10:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Local officials emphasize that the race is both a significant athletic challenge and a key opportunity to promote Tenerife’s natural heritage. Full technical and regulatory details are available on the event’s official website. The day’s activities will conclude at 6:30 p.m.
