In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a new exhibition is highlighting the importance of keeping traditional crafts alive in a modern city. The La Recova Art Center is hosting Shared Creations until September 30th, showcasing work from the city’s municipal training programs in ceramics, graphic art, and typography.
The exhibition is more than just a display; it aims to pass on technical skills that might otherwise be lost to history. In the ceramics section, students use local materials and traditional hand-building techniques, connecting them directly to the island’s pre-Hispanic roots.
The project also emphasizes keeping old tools in use. The typography section features historical printing presses and movable type, ensuring these machines remain functional rather than just becoming museum pieces. Meanwhile, the graphic art laboratory explores how traditional printing and engraving methods can be combined with modern artistic styles.
The exhibition is open to the public at the following times:
- Tuesday to Saturday: 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Sunday: 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
