Tenerife is dismantling a bicycle lane due to a lost appeal by the city council.
A bike path on Tenerife that was never opened will be dismantled due to a lost appeal by the city council.
In the capital of Tenerife, the bike lane will begin to be dismantled starting next Monday, October 6. The mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, made this decision because the city council lost the appeal. Earlier, the court ordered the suspension of work on the bike lane, and it was never opened. Now the dividers that were installed on El Pilar and Villalba Hervás streets will be removed.
The mayor explained: "We decided to dismantle the bike lane on El Pilar and Villalba Hervás streets because we believe that it is the most disruptive there. We cannot wait forever for the court to make a final decision."
He added: "If we cannot open the bike lane or complete it due to a court decision, it is better to remove it. This way, we will interfere less with entrepreneurs and residents of the city before the Christmas holidays. There is no point in keeping something that cannot be used and cannot be completed."
The city council plans to appeal to the Supreme Court, but for now, they have decided to dismantle the bike lane.
