The opening of the CEIP Miguel Pintor swimming pool in Santa Cruz de Tenerife has been delayed until at least 2027 due to budget shortfalls and ongoing administrative reviews.

The opening of the CEIP Miguel Pintor swimming pool in the Anaga district has been delayed once again due to administrative setbacks. The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council recently announced that the project, located in the La Alegría neighborhood, is now waiting on a budget update after original funding proved insufficient to cover the work planned in October 2025.

Alicia Cebrián, head of the Department of Sports, confirmed that the project is currently being reviewed by municipal legal services. This is a necessary step before the city can open the project to public bidding. Officials now expect the contract to be awarded between late 2026 and January 2027. The budget, originally set at 1.3 million euros, had to be revised last August to account for rising market costs.

The renovation is expected to take ten months and is essential to finally opening the facility to the public. The work will focus on three main areas: repairing the pool basin to ensure it is watertight, upgrading the surrounding area to meet modern accessibility and drainage standards, and completely modernizing the changing rooms.

This delay highlights the challenges of turning school facilities into shared public spaces. Beyond the cost of maintenance, the city must ensure that the site meets strict safety and hygiene standards for both students and the general public. With the local government now approving the updated budget, the City Council hopes to move forward with this project, which remains a top priority for residents who have long called for more swimming facilities in the Anaga area.
