Santa Cruz Declares Valleseco Coast Strategic Project
Santa Cruz city council has designated the Valleseco coast a "Municipal Strategic Project," with an architecture competition underway to develop a master plan for improved sea access and urban connection, and construction expected to begin this year.
Santa Cruz city council has declared the Valleseco coast a "Municipal Strategic Project." This move highlights a strong commitment to improving the area and better connecting the city with its maritime surroundings. This special designation means the project is a top priority for local government, aiming to develop a comprehensive plan for the area. According to DIARIO DE AVISOS, three architecture firms have already submitted their proposals for the ideas competition launched for this purpose.
The competition, launched in December 2025 with a submission deadline of January 19th, aims to set the stage for a future Master Plan. Its main goal is to create a new access point to the sea by connecting the areas known as El Bloque and Los Charcos. Carlos Tarife, the Councilor for Public Services, announced that a jury of experts from the city and Port Authority will anonymously evaluate the proposals. The selected idea will then serve as the starting point for developing the final project, with construction expected to begin this year.
The competition seeks a comprehensive vision for Valleseco, focusing on improving transportation, renovating public areas, and enhancing the neighborhood's natural link to the sea and the adjacent ravine. To acknowledge the technical work involved, monetary prizes are offered: the winning proposal will receive 6,000 euros and the chance to be awarded the contract for drafting the final project. Second place will receive 5,000 euros, and third place 3,000 euros.
