The Santa Cruz government plans to discuss the future of the bike path with residents after a court ruling suspended its construction due to complaints about obstruction of traffic and business.

The Santa Cruz city hall wants to consult with residents on how best to arrange the bike path. Local authorities have appealed to the Supreme Court due to a decision by a higher court that suspended the construction of the city's bike network. Now, after the court's decision, officials plan to discuss with the people what to do next with the bike path.

Previously, representatives of local organizations, which unite urban areas and entrepreneurs, appealed to the city hall. They are asking to revise the bike path on El Pilar and Villalba Hervas streets because, in their opinion, it interferes with traffic, creates danger, and harms business.

Entrepreneurs say that the bike path creates many problems, especially due to the speed bumps that complicate passage in emergency situations, as well as the disappearance of places for unloading goods.

A representative of the city hall stated that they are waiting for the court's decision, but are ready to seek a compromise. Therefore, he proposes to start discussions with the public to decide how to redesign these streets. If the court decides that the bike path needs to be removed, then they will jointly decide what to do next.

He added that it is possible to return everything as it was before, or to turn the bike path into a pedestrian zone. But the final decision will be made together with the residents.
