Santa Cruz de Tenerife Unveils Winning 'Valle Vivo' Design for Valleseco Coastline Transformation

The Valleseco coastline in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set for a major transformation following the results of a city-sponsored design competition, as reported by Diario de Avisos. The winning proposal, "Valle Vivo" (Living Valley), was created by the Corona, Amaral y Senning studio in partnership with WaWa Consultores en Movilidad. The project aims to reconnect the La Vega urban area with the ravine and the coast, bridging a gap that has existed for years.

While the competition does not mark the start of immediate construction, it provides a technical roadmap for the area's future master plan. The winning design, which received a 6,000-euro prize, focuses on making the space more accessible to the public. It proposes a layout that includes pedestrian paths, shaded areas, landscaping, and restaurants, all centered around the ravine.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez’s administration views this as more than just a waterfront project; it will serve as the foundation for future development plans. However, moving forward will require careful coordination between the Tenerife Island Water Council and the Port Authority, given the strategic importance of the land.

Carmen Pérez, head of the Department of Strategic Planning, noted that the public will have a say in the project’s development. This approach is increasingly common in Spanish port cities, where officials must balance industrial needs with the community’s desire for more leisure and social spaces. The next phase will involve technical analysis and an assessment of local needs to ensure the final design works for both the relevant authorities and the residents of Valleseco.
