Santa Cruz de Tenerife is getting ready for Christmas with over a hundred events planned across the city. This year's program, called 'Santa Cruz, Where Christmas is Born,' aims to bring festive cheer to everyone, with activities for all ages.
Highlights include ice skating rinks, special afternoons for seniors, and Christmas movies in García Sanabria Park. The city council has put together a packed schedule featuring cultural, musical, sports, children's, and charity events. The goal is to make the city lively and enjoyable for both residents and visitors during the holiday season.
To ensure everything runs smoothly, essential services like cleaning and extra police presence are being boosted.
The Christmas lights are a major feature, with a significant investment made to illuminate over 400 locations. This year sees new decorations, including a 25-meter-tall Christmas tree near Plaza de España and a large light ball in Plaza del Patriotismo. Many commercial streets are also being decorated to add to the festive atmosphere.
The program officially kicks off on Thursday, December 20th, with the ceremonial switching on of the Christmas lights in Plaza de La Candelaria. This event will feature music from the Municipal Band, a light show, and performances by well-known singers.
Throughout the holiday period, there will be a variety of concerts, including traditional performances, a Disney-themed show, and a Gospel concert. The annual Christmas Market will open on December 19th, offering artisan and festive products, while the Gastro Navidad Market Fest will combine food and music from December 13th.
For families, there's a special Children's New Year's Eve celebration on December 28th, complete with early midnight bells. The main New Year's Eve party on December 31st will feature live music and orchestras.
Sports enthusiasts can look forward to events like the Las Teresitas International Regatta and an inclusive race.
Local businesses are also getting involved, with initiatives like themed routes for food and shopping, and a Santa Claus World event. The Culture department has organized a range of family-friendly activities, including theatre, workshops, and storytelling.
Residents can follow the Christmas program updates on the city council's social media and official websites.
