Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Open New €1.4 Million Day Center in Anaga District
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has announced a 1.4 million euro contract to open a new day center in the Anaga district by 2026, aiming to improve social support and reduce inequality for local youth.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has announced plans to open a new day center in the Anaga district. This initiative highlights the challenges of providing social services in an area defined by its rugged landscape and scattered population. To address a shortage of local public resources, the council is outsourcing the service through a four-year, 1.4 million euro contract.
The project, scheduled to run from 2026 to 2029, will be managed as a single contract rather than being split into smaller parts. The council states this approach is necessary to ensure a consistent standard of care and teaching. The budget is set at 97,332 euros for the first year, increasing to 202,514 euros in 2027, 210,920 euros in 2028, and 109,838 euros in the final year. Officials emphasize that this center is vital for reducing inequality in a region where residents have historically struggled to access basic social support.
The center will offer more than just a place for children to stay; it will function as a comprehensive support system. The chosen provider must work closely with local schools, healthcare services, and community groups. Bidding companies must prove they can offer specialized care for children and teenagers, including personalized support plans that continue throughout the year, even when school is out.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez and Social Policies Councilor Charín González are backing the project, focusing on prevention as a key part of their social strategy. By providing consistent, professional support tailored to the specific needs of families in Anaga, the council aims to create more stable environments for local children and help overcome long-standing social disadvantages.
