Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Launch Digital Parking Management System by 2027
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has awarded Kapsch TrafficCom a 435,186-euro contract to launch a digital parking management system by 2027, featuring real-time availability tracking and a mobile app to reduce urban congestion.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council is launching a new digital parking management plan to improve mobility in the capital. Backed by a public investment of 435,186.57 euros, the project is set to go live in early 2027.
The contract has been awarded to Kapsch TrafficCom. The plan goes beyond simple signage, featuring real-time monitoring of 24 parking areas. Drivers will be able to check parking availability through 12 new information panels located throughout the city, as well as a dedicated mobile app. This app will offer geolocation services to guide drivers to open spots, while also providing information on costs and operating hours. While the City Council is considering adding a mobile payment feature, the specific details for that function have yet to be finalized.
This project is part of a broader "smart city" strategy, which uses data to help officials make better urban planning decisions. By connecting the system directly to the municipal traffic control center, the Department of Mobility and Universal Accessibility—led by Evelyn Alonso—will be able to track vehicle flow and parking demand. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez’s administration plans to use this data to adjust parking supply to meet the actual needs of residents and visitors, ultimately reducing traffic congestion and the carbon emissions caused by drivers searching for parking.
As Spanish cities face increasing pressure on their historic and commercial centers, this initiative aims to optimize public space. By giving drivers better information, the City Council hopes to improve the overall driving experience and create a more sustainable, efficient urban environment.
