Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Host Tribute for Musician Alberto Delgado Prieto

This Thursday, the Los Lavaderos Art Hall in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host an institutional and artistic tribute to the late Alberto Delgado Prieto, who passed away in 2020. Part of the "Lavaderos Live Music" series, the event serves as both a celebration of his musical compositions and a look back at his significant role in shaping Canary Islands culture during the late 20th century.

The tribute highlights the many sides of Delgado Prieto’s career, from his time teaching at the Higher Conservatory of Music in the 1970s to his influential work with the CajaCanarias Foundation and the regional government’s culture department. Starting at 8:00 p.m., the evening will reflect on his management of the former Caja de Ahorros' social programs and his close ties to iconic musical groups like Los Sabandeños.

Coordinated by musician and journalist Rubén Díaz, the program explores Delgado Prieto’s work, which included setting the poetry of figures like Federico García Lorca, Miguel Hernández, Antonio Machado, and Bertolt Brecht to music. The event features a diverse lineup: a didactic opening by guitar professors Fernando Hernández León and Esther González Hernández, followed by performances from the groups Ruydo con Cuerd@s and Angard, featuring vocalists Dori Acosta and Ángeles García.

A special highlight will be the reunion of founding members of the Coral de Voces Blancas, a project Delgado Prieto directed for many years. The group, which became famous in 1974 after recording a vinyl record, will see members Javier Galván, Juan Luis Bermejo, Víctor Pérez, Jorge Hosp, José Luis Rufino, and Eduardo de Bonis return to the stage. The evening will also include contributions from violinist Antonio Lorenzo, singer-songwriter Ányelo Fernández, actor Juancho Aguiar, and an audiovisual piece by pianist Polo Ortí.

This tribute is part of the tenth edition of the series organized by the Centro-Ifara District Council, which runs throughout August. Following this event, the program continues on August 20th with M-Band, reaches its 100th performance on August 27th, and concludes on August 29th with a final day featuring Whiskería Lili, Mono Sapiens, Escaldón de Golfos, and DJs Chary Lou and Toni LaCalle.
