Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Host Ninth Edition of Quirino Animation Awards
Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host the ninth edition of the Quirino Awards from April 15 to 17, serving as a major hub for the Ibero-American animation industry through professional forums, screenings, and networking events.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set to become the hub of the Ibero-American animation industry as it hosts the ninth edition of the Quirino Awards from April 15 to 17. While the main awards ceremony will take place on April 17 at the Auditorio de Tenerife—and will be available to watch online—the event has grown into a vital platform for the region’s audiovisual sector.
Supported by the Cabildo de Tenerife, Turismo de Tenerife, and the Tenerife Film Commission, the event is a key driver for local economic growth and innovation. A major highlight is the Co-production and Business Forum, which expects to host around 250 professionals from over 30 countries. This forum serves as a crucial space for networking; last year’s event facilitated 1,300 business meetings, proving the high demand for spaces where creators can connect and share projects in a global market.
This year’s professional program features several key initiatives. The new "Futures Laboratory," launched in 2025 in partnership with the Ortega-Marañón Foundation, will meet on April 16 to discuss the future of financing and distribution in an era of changing viewer habits. Additionally, the fifth International Meeting of TV Channels and Platforms will take place on April 15, aiming to build stronger partnerships between European and Ibero-American media companies.
The event also remains committed to diversity, with a dedicated working group for women in animation that continues to support mentorship programs like Mianima and Animation!.
To share these works with the public, the organizers have planned a mix of digital and in-person events. From April 13 to 26, a selection of finalist short films will be available to stream on Retina Latina and Filmin. Meanwhile, TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes will host free screenings of the 2026 nominees throughout April and May. Finally, students and professionals in design, comics, and gaming are invited to a "beerworking" event at Café Teatro Rayuela on April 13, held in collaboration with El Gremio.
